Sigma Lens Tests 1.4X Teleconverter
1.4 TC w/70200 f2.8 EX/HSM
80400 f4-5.6 EX/OS
With uncompressed tif's there is an ever so slight advantage in sharpness and contrast with the 80400 at f8. I did not test at f5.6 where the 80400 should do better based upon previous shoots. Differences are very small and not readily apparent with JPEG's. This is a real compliment to the 1.4 T/C as the two lenses are about equal without the T/C, at 200mm with again perhaps a slight advantage to the 80400. So the 1.4 T/C does not cause much image degradation (compare with the 2.0). The advantage (if any), is inconsequential from the standpoint of sharpness and contrast; color is similar. The issues are more of OS vs non OS; constant f2.8 vs f4.5-5.6; weight/size; inconvenience of a T/C; and price. I am glad I have both lenses and very happy with both. Depending upon the situation, I take one or the other. It is nice to know that I can use the 1.4 T/C on the 70-200 and get good results.
